The Building

Home of Lancashire Hill Sunday School

For our regular meetings see the "Coming Up” page.

The current building was built during 1988 and opened in 1989. It has a distinctive triangular shape - hence the name!

Before that we had a three storey building on Old Road (behind Nelstrops’ flour Mill) which had been the home of our school since 1821.

Too big for our requirements and in a poor state of repair, we sold this to a property developer in 1986 to fund our new building. It suffered a collapse a couple of years later and it was eventually demolished - the site still lies empty.

Founded in 1821, Lancashire Hill Sunday School has continually been serving the local community with education and support.

Initially the school was created to give the poor and working classes a basic education including reading, writing and arithmetic with a Christian basis.

Since this function is now covered by the state, the school now provides an Inter-denominational and very informal Christian service every week, together with a number of weekday and evening activities.
